Key West Lobsterfest 2009
Lobster lovers are invited to sample the tasty Florida crustacean during the 13th annual Key West Lobsterfest, scheduled from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8th 2009.
The event is to feature lobster offerings ranging from appetizers to full dinners with the traditional trimmings, from 20 local restaurants. The festive feast is to take place in the 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 blocks of Key West's famed Duval Street.
Lobsterfest celebrates the bounty of the Florida Keys lobster season that runs from Aug. 6 to March 31. All lobster to be served at the event will be caught by Keys lobster fishermen.
Known as spiny lobsters, the clawless crustaceans found in Keys waters offer sweet and tender meat. Lobster often is served steamed with drawn butter, in creamy bisque or cold in savory salads.
Participating establishments' chefs are to compete for bragging rights in an unofficial lobster cook-off.
Live music from local and regional bands is scheduled to enhance lobster-lovers' appreciation of the day, beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing until 11 p.m.
In addition, a street fair is to add to the lively atmosphere on lower Duval Street.
Don’t miss the Lobsterfest Duval Crawl on Friday night and a spectacular Lobster Brunch on Sunday offered at the Double Tree Grand Key Hotel.
As well as showcasing the sweet and flavorful Florida lobster, Lobsterfest benefits a scholarship fund for Key West High School students.
