Mango Cottage has antique Dade County pine walls and floors throughout the cottage. The open-concept kitchen, living room, and dining area have fantastic 12 foot sliding glass doors, which create abundant natural light under a high vaulted ceiling and provide seamless indoor/outdoor living. The beautiful salt water heated pool and deck area make it the perfect place to enjoy your Key West vacation. The kitchen offers stainless appliances and granite countertops with a large white enameled farmers sink, garbage disposal, dishwasher, microwave, full oven/stove, and a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with crushed ice and water through the door. There is a commercial grade
washer/dryer nestled under a granite counter just beyond the kitchen which allows you to pack light and still enjoy an extended stay in Key West. Central air-conditioning is a luxury enjoyed in only the best historic rentals, including Mango Cottage.

There is custom high-end wood cabinetry featured throughout the home. The kitchen has painted white maple cabinets with glass doors. The bedrooms and primary bath contain beautiful mahogany built-in cabinets, lending a Caribbean feel to the cottage. Stylish furnishings and artwork add to the tropical feel of the home, including a wonderful collection of antique swimsuits in custom shadow boxes.

The primary bedroom has a king bed with an ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen bed and is adjacent to a second full bath via a private hall. A cozy loft with two twin beds and storage drawers sits above a common room, which is accessed by funky alternating ship ladder stairs, custom-made as well. The loft and both bedrooms have top-of-the-line Simmons AirCool ComfortPedic memory foam mattresses. There are TVs in each bedroom (and loft) and there is an additional 42" TV in the living room. All TVs come with streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, Max (formerly HBO) and YouTube TV.

The fully remodeled bathrooms boast custom tile work. Pebble floors beneath your feet in both showers remind you that you are living on a tropical island. This fantastic home is located on Varela Street in a wonderful residential neighborhood just a couple blocks from Fausto’s Food Palace, a local Key West grocery store. It is an easy walk to
some of the island’s finest dining, including Seven Fish, a Key West landmark. Mango Cottage is centrally located, only a 0.6 mile walk to Duval Street, but the residential nature of the neighborhood keeps things quiet and invites you to live like a local.

Bicycles are a great way to see the island. There are bike racks in the front area of the property behind the white picket fence which lines the sidewalk, with room for four bicycles to be safely
stored and locked.

Outdoor living is perhaps the best part of Key West life. The private outdoor area is enclosed by pretty white wooden fences, and the property contains numerous tall palm trees and other tropical plantings which add to privacy and the peaceful tropical vibe of Mango Cottage.

This home boasts a private heated saltwater pool which has stairs leading to the 3 foot deep shallow end, going up to 5 feet at the deepest end. There is a bench seat incorporated in the pool for lounging, and stepping stones that pass by beautiful tropical flowers along the pool’s edge. The patio offers outdoor dining for six with a teak table with sling chairs under the shade of a 9 foot cantilever umbrella, as well as two comfortable lounge chairs nestled between palm trees for working on your Key West tan.

Rocking chairs on the front porch invite you to enjoy early-morning cafe con leche from nearby Sandy’s Cuban Cafe while perusing the local newspaper or just enjoying the peace and quiet of
the neighborhood. There is a grill area near the outdoor dining table and a newly built private outdoor shower. The fully enclosed 4x5 foot shower provides hot and cold running water and lighting that allows for late-night use. Edison string lights lining the perimeter of the property let you enjoy the tropical Key West nights, and lend a festive feeling to the outdoor space.

There are alternating ship ladder stairs to the loft with twin beds (please see the accompanying photo above) which are not suitable for small children and people who cannot climb ladders. Mango Cottage may not be appropriate for parties who have guests that have difficulty accessing the loft space.

Note: Parking in Key West is very limited. This property has no assigned parking and street parking is very limited. We encourage you to leave your vehicles at home and enjoy the beauty of Key West on foot or bicycle.

"We had issues with getting the pool to get warm and Kevin was available always to make it right every time. It was the perfect size and loved having the pool. The walk to duval street was just far away to get a great walk in for the day!! Great house and location…very cozy and loved George, our four legged friend that hung out everyday with us!!

"We had an issue with cold water in the master bathroom sink. Not a huge issue. Our bedroom walls seemed to be built of paper as a new roof was going on the property next door. At least we were up early to enjoy the whole day! (there are two notes in the house in regards to garbage day. Monday and Tuesday. It was a little confusing. We had a great time! Thank you!

Mango Cottage is a gem…

"Mango Cottage is a gem! It has the perfect set up for a party of 6. We were a family (all adults) of 5 and had the best time here. Location is perfect. Neighborhood is safe with every convience near by. The cottage is just as the pictures describe but even more charming in person! The pool is a perfect addition to cooling off after your walk home from Duval street or for relaxing in the evenings. The host Kevin has thought of everything and is very responsive! There is a reqular coffee maker and a keurig. The kitchen and home is well stocked. The only downside is parking but if you have ever been to Key West before, you know parking is a issue everywhere. Plus we were here during a Thanksgiving. This cottage is located on a neighborhood street with "resident only" and open parking. You must have a resident sticker to park in "resident only." Our first day, we did have an issue finding a "open" parking spot but by that evening we were able to get a open parking spot and just left our vehicle in that spot for the rest of our visit. We walked every where, down to Duval St, Mallory Sq, and Front St. It is about a 15-20 min walk or a $11-20 Uber ride for a XL. There is a bike rental shop at the end of the street, a convience store, and Sandys just around the corner. Sandy's has great breakfast sandwiches and cubans. I highly recommend the Mango Cottage! You will not be disappointed.

"We stayed in both the Mango Cottage and the Cuban Club Suite. Both properties were great. I loved the decorations at the Mango Cottage. They were very retro and fun. Exactly what I would want out of a beach cottage. It also had a fun loft for my kids to sleep in and a private pool. Both made the trip with kids so much more fun and enjoyable. The Cuban Club Suite was beautiful and so close to everything. The balcony over Duval St made for some excellent people watching. And the size of the property would be perfect for a large family or several friends to stay together. Overall we were thrilled with both properties and would definitely stay at either of them again.
